About Guzzlefish

A nod to where it started.

A new home for physical-media collectors, inspired by a simple idea that still matters.

Guzzlefish.app is an independent project inspired by the original Guzzlefish, the early-2000s collection website created by Dave Snider and Bradlee Record.

2003The original Guzzlefish launches around simple collecting, easy adding, and community cataloging.
2004CNET acquires the service, and its ideas continue to influence collectors even after the site disappears.
TodayGuzzlefish.app pays homage to that philosophy for modern physical-media shelves.

The original service gave collectors a simple way to catalog DVDs, music, and games while contributing to a growing community database - an idea that was remarkably ahead of its time.

More than two decades later, Guzzlefish.app is being built around individual physical releases, not simply movies as abstract titles. DVDs, Blu-rays, 4K UHDs, VHS tapes, LaserDiscs, UMDs, and other formats can have different editions, packaging, regions, UPCs, artwork, and specifications.

As collectors add titles, correct information, and identify releases, Guzzlefish can gradually build a durable media database of its own - one shaped by the people who actually collect this stuff.
